Who is a Hindu?

A Hindu is one who follows Sanatana Dharma, the eternal path of truth, duty, and spiritual freedom. Hindu identity is not defined by dogma or conversion, but by a deep civilizational belonging that embraces diversity, inquiry, and reverence for all life. Whether through Shaiva, Vaishnava, Shakta, Smarta, tribal, or folk traditions.A Hindu lives in alignment with dharma, guided by the principles of karma and the pursuit of moksha. One may express devotion in countless forms or none at all, yet still belong to this timeless tradition. To be Hindu is to inherit a living legacy of wisdom, resilience, and spiritual continuity. In a world where Hindus are often misunderstood or marginalized, affirming who a Hindu is becomes essential to defending their dignity, rights, and place in the global civilizational fabric.

What is Hinduism?

Hinduism, or Sanatana Dharma, is the world’s most ancient living tradition—a civilizational way of life rooted in timeless principles of dharma, karma, and moksha. It offers diverse paths to truth through devotion, knowledge, meditation, and service. Without a single founder or rigid doctrine, Hinduism embraces pluralism, reveres nature, and sees the divine in all existence. It is both deeply personal and universally inclusive—a path of inner growth, ethical living, and spiritual freedom.

What is Hindutva?

Hindutva is the expression of Hindu identity in the social, cultural, and civilizational spheres. Coined in the early 20th century by thinkers like Veer Savarkar, it refers to the collective consciousness and continuity of the Hindu civilization. Hindutva affirms the cultural unity of Bharat and the civilizational values of Sanatana Dharma rooted in pluralism, resilience, and spiritual heritage. It stands for the dignity, security, and rights of Hindus in their ancestral land and across the world. In a time when Hindu voices are often silenced or misrepresented, Hindutva asserts the right to exist with pride, without apology, and in peaceful coexistence with all.

Hindus across nations

Hindus, despite being one of the world’s oldest and most resilient communities, continue to face systemic human rights challenges in many parts of the world. From targeted violence and discrimination to social and political marginalization, violations against Hindus take many forms often overlooked or underreported in global discourse.

In several countries, Hindu minorities endure communal violence, forced displacement, desecration of sacred sites, and restrictions on religious freedom. Women from these communities face compounded vulnerabilities, including gender-based violence and social exclusion. The denial of basic rights such as education, fair legal treatment, and access to justice further deepens the crisis.

These violations not only threaten the physical safety and dignity of individual Hindus but also endanger the preservation of their rich cultural, spiritual, and historical heritage. The ripple effects impact generations, eroding the social fabric and undermining the pluralistic values that Hinduism embodies.

At the Global Hindu Human Rights Collective, we raise our voice against these injustices. We work tirelessly to document violations, support victims through legal aid, advocate for policy changes, and build global awareness. Every act of injustice faced by Hindus anywhere is a call for collective action an urgent plea for justice, dignity, and equal rights for all.

Together, we strive to safeguard the rights of Hindus everywhere and to foster a world where their heritage and humanity are respected and protected.
